Denis, you are aware I assume, that AI gets the information to answer your recipe questions from pirated cookbooks. That's why authors like myself won a class action lawsuit against Anthropic. In my view, AI is only as good as the cookbooks it learns from. And cookbooks will only continue to be published as long as people buy them.

Eugenia, thanks for reading my Substack post. Congratulations on winning a suit against Anthropic. I hope the award was substantial. I have had some of my writing stolen by several publishing pirates, and I have never received a penny. You should know that your books survived the massacre and still hold a place in my remaining cookbook collection. I would not be concerned about people buying cookbooks, as I noted in the opening paragraph: cookbooks remain the most popular genre of books sold. This won't change until we run out of trees and paper.

Denis,

In defense of cookbooks…even the worst, most poorly written, cookbooks when placed on a bookshelf against a wall, will provide excellent R-32 insulation.

Cheers, Kent

A brilliant idea for re-purposing them. Much better than a landfill.
