Speaking of Chanterelles and Porcini mushrooms here we sit in Pagosa Springs high and dry awaiting the Southwest monsoon to establish itself so that southern Rocky Mountains get enough moisture to let those delectable mushrooms to show themselves .

We’ve been all over the southern San Juan chain from 8,000 to 11,500 feet, found dozens of places with good habitat and nothing! The ground under the duff is not damp but it is not dust either. There is hope.

The forecast shows a precipitation possibility each afternoon for the next ten days. I’ll be watching my weather radar App where I get real time rain echos and plotting them on my various maps. Then with my GPS coordinates, drive to the spot, hop out of the car and pick some ‘shrooms.

So, Dr Skeptical, I know this is not how we used to do it in the golden years, but what the hay. One has to adapt. Right? They still taste the same.
